There have been so many good movies over the years that is actually impossible to choose.
OUT OF AFRICA
It was so long ago that I last watched this but there are still some vivid images in my mind. I remember scenes from a plane with thousands of Wildebeest (I, think it was) running across the screen.
Meryl Streep had one of her best performances as Karen Blixen, who had a farm in Africa. The line "I had a farm in Africa" will always stick. I can still hear it. Robert Redford was equally formidable.
I saw this ten times and have the video. The story was fascinating and the music out of this world. If you don't enjoy classical music it might not appeal to you as it is the story of Amadeus Wolfgang Mozart. Even if you are not a classic music fan the story might still captivate you.
It didn't make use of very well known actors but Tom Hulce as Mozart was excellent. It was said that he didn't portray the character of Mozart true to the actual person Mozart. It might be so but who of we knew Mozart?
Pink Floyd's controversial 80's movie about so many issues. WW2, children at school. Remember the scene where they get tinned? The combination of animation, graphical violence and splendid music made it very much a first for its time. I doubt if it was ever meant to be appeal to a mainstream audience.
There is no doubt about the brilliance of this Stanley Kubrick movie. Kubrick's brilliance can be sometimes be too much for me. Thinking about Eyes Wide shut which was also one of his and the very upsetting A Clockwork Orange.
